As in 2021 and 2022, laif photographer Marcus Höhn photographed and filmed the campaign for »Face to Face with German Films - The Filmmakers« again this year. He portrayed seven newcomers to German film. They act as ambassadors and represent the whole diversity of filmmakers. German Films says:

German Films, the national information and advisory center for the dissemination of German film abroad, presented outstanding talents of the German film landscape to the international film industry for the eighth time during the Berlinale. The Face to Face with German Films – The Filmmakers campaign, which will once again consider all film trades in 2023, presents seven filmmakers who have left a lasting mark on the German film industry with their creative, artistic work. They follow in the footsteps of respected filmmakers such as Burhan Qurbani, Saskia Rosendahl, Alexander Fehling, Julia Jentsch, Jonas Nay, Sandra Hüller, Jannis Niewöhner and Sara Fazilat.

The seven Faces 2023 come from the most diverse areas of filmmaking, combining different personal backgrounds and professional careers, and thus representing the diversity of German film. The creative arc of this year’s selection by German Films spans from screenwriter Sönke Andresen (“Orphea in Love“), actor Welket Bungué (“Crimes of the Future”), composer Dascha Dauenhauer (“Berlin Alexanderplatz“), to director, actress and writer Alison Kuhn (“The Case You“), writer and director Reza Memari (“Überflieger – Kleine Vögel, Großes Geklapper“), to director, actor and writer Lukas Nathrath (“Letzter Abend”) and actress Lena Urzendowsky (“Franky Five Star”).

»The focus of our Face to Face with German Films campaign this year is on unique talents who stand for a sustainable and diverse future of the German film industry. We are proud to present seven talented filmmakers as ambassadors of our campaign this year. With their diverse biographies and professional backgrounds, they have the potential to cross borders and represent the creativity of film internationally,« emphasizes Simone Baumann, Managing Director of German Films.

»For the third time in a row, I was allowed to shoot the campaign for German Films this year. Also this time wonderful talents from the German film have been selected. They are talents who work in front of and behind the camera as well, showing the diversity of creativity in German film. As a location I have chosen the Weekend Club at Alexanderplatz. A very special place in the heart of Berlin. The roof terrace offers an impressive view over the city.
After the years of the pandemic, this time the campaign was allowed to be presented again during the Berlinale. It was a moving event, in the Kaisersaal at Potsdamer Platz, with all the selected talents for 2023.«
