Stopping global warming requires more than just gradually reducing carbon emissions to zero. It would also require actively removing carbon from the atmosphere, an ambitious undertaking that is unprecedented. Over the last few centuries, we have already added 2.4 trillion tons of carbon dioxide to the Earth's atmosphere.

Davide Monteleone made several trips across Europe to explore some of the leading facilities in the field of CO2 capture and storage. He documented how large machines extract CO2 from the air, facilities where carbon dioxide is injected underground and submarine tanks that allow CO2 to be safely stored under the seabed. Some companies have found innovative ways to recycle CO2, while others are cultivating microalgae to absorb it from the atmosphere.
