»The Line Between Us« is an exhibition project with performances, a concert, tours and a discussion on how society deals with the LGBTQIA* movement as an indicator of the state of democracy. Realized in collaboration with the laif Agency, laif Foundation and Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten Berlin.

Despite the highest number of CSD parades in the world in 2024 and a partially more open attitude towards LGBTQIA* people, violence and aggression against queer people is continuously on the rise. Is society’s treatment of the LGBTQIA* movement an indicator of the state of democracy?

The project The Line between Us, initiated by photographers Nora Bibel and Marcus Höhn, is dedicated to the challenge of respectfully depicting the realities of queer people’s lives and opening up an intergenerational dialog with an exhibition and an educational program. For the exhibition, they have selected eleven photographers and artists from the LGBTIQA* community who provide a wide-ranging insight into their work and the everyday lives of queer people.

Exhibition: August 23 – November 1, 2025
Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am – 7 pm
Location: Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten, Turmstraße 75, 10551 Berlin

Nearly 500 visitors attended the opening of the exhibition »The Line Between Us« at Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten. The evening demonstrated the significant interest in queer perspectives.

In addition to the photographers’ works, a speech by Alfonso Pantisano, Queer Representative for the State of Berlin, was a particular highlight. His words made it clear why visibility is so crucial.

As part of a specially designed education program, the gallery is offering free dialogical tours for school classes and youth groups in September and October. Workshops – such as “Our Life Now!” for young people aged 16 and over – promote creative expression and queer perspectives.

The exhibition is supported by the district development funds of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion and the laif foundation and laif cooperative.
