In the heart of the Alps, Victorinox has been manufacturing the world-famous Swiss Army Knife for over 140 years – a symbol of precision, quality, and »Made in Switzerland«.

But now US punitive tariffs of up to 39 percent are threatening business in the most important sales market. Company boss Carl Elsener Jr. faces difficult decisions: raise prices, relocate parts of production, or tap into new markets. For Switzerland, this is not just about business, but also about identity, neutrality, and the question: how much of Switzerland must remain in the »Swiss Army knife«?

Lea Meienberg visited the traditional Swiss company in Ibach for The New York Times.
